Hi Hazel
The other mistake I see business owners make is allowing their web designer to purchase a domain for them. The person that makes the purchase is generally the owner of the domain. I have had clients forced to buy a different domain because their old web designer moved/is out of te business/is unreachable - and the website domain is in the old designers name. Now they are stuck - and either have to wait for it to expire and hope it is not auctioned off - or have to change their website address = neither option is ideal.
